Answers

So, it's time to find out if you get a passing grade... but don't worry, I know that if you're taking this quiz, we're on the right track. Knowledge is also the basis of all responsible consumption and you are already showing interest!

1- True. Polyester is a synthetic fiber whose raw material is petroleum. It is therefore not an ecological fiber.

2- Traditional cotton uses 25% of the total pesticides used on the planet. Additionally, it consumes phenomenal amounts of water. We are talking here about 10,000 liters of water for one kilo of cotton, the equivalent of 2 t-shirts.

3- True. Working conditions in China have improved slightly in part because of a shortage of underskilled workers. This has caused a massive relocation of several companies to Bangladesh, Vietnam, Indonesia and Myanmar.

4- Completely false! The consumer who thinks this way removes responsibility. If certain products are not consumed, companies must reposition themselves towards something that will be consumed. We have great power.

5- Sometimes true, sometimes false. This is true in the case of flax and hemp which do not require irrigation water and pesticides. This is wrong in the case of traditional cotton which is grown with a lot of pesticides and water.

6- Simple logic that speaks for itself. The least polluting good is the one that we do not consume (therefore we do not produce it). This refers to the first of the 3R-Vs , reduction.

7- Polyester is a form of plastic produced from petroleum. It takes between 500 and 1000 years to decompose in our landfills.

8- False. A large part of the ecological traces of clothing reside in the maintenance of clothes: we calculate the quantity of water used, detergents/stain removers/softeners and drying. Fortunately, there are eco-friendly maintenance alternatives.

9- False! And we find it really funny when we see on the news that a hemp field has been stolen. Hemp and cannabis are one and the same plant. However, the way it is cultivated is of great importance and hemp contains absolutely no psychotropic drugs.

10- It was shown by a study carried out by Greenpeace in 2012 that 63% of clothing on the market contains products potentially toxic to humans.

Through simple questions, we can perceive that making the clothing industry an ecological industry is a grandiose task that requires considering several aspects. Today there are great alternatives to fast and polluting fashion. Beautiful, good clothes that are more sustainable for you and the planet. It is your responsibility to inform yourself and we support you by doing the research for you and offering you wise choices.
